Words and Phrases from My Old House
I still have a few more posts forthcoming about My Old House, but here are some words and phrases that come to mind when I think about the house where I lived in the second half of the 1970s.

Hey Steven,
You missed a dog. Thumper got her name when I found her close to the greenhouse with a broken hip after being hit on US 6. We brought her home and the Vet said to keep her in a large box so the hip could heal. Everytime we'd look in the box her tail would thump wildly. Hence "Thumper".
Wow a lot of other memories came back from those words.
Thanks for memory lane.
Mom
We are obviously the same age. I am originally from Bremen, but my Mom and her family are from Nappanee, so we were there all the time. I have never met anyone who has ever heard of rival soup! I am so excited. I eat mine with brown sugar, my dad eats his with an egg on top. My kids and husband gross out at it. We ate it when were sick, not sure why, because it is quite unhealthy!
I have enjoyed your series. Is Tina Haney- Tina Sheets now? I worked with her at Elkhart General years ago?
Tia Bennett
Tia,
I love rivel soup. My wife even has mastered the old recipe and makes it for our family to this day. Our kids are not so crazy about it though. I loved it when I was a kid.
I'm not sure what Tina's married name is. And her name might actually be spelled "Teena" or another variation. I think she still lives in the area though.
I just saw your mom's recipe for Rivel Soup in the new Liz's Furniture Cook Book. She actually has a lot of great recipes in there. Love the Blueberry French Toast recipe!! And yes, Tena is Tena Sheets.
My kids watched the Brady Bunch for the first time over winter break. I told them how much we liked that show. I wondered if they would think if was lame. Carly said it was good.
I love the list.
Just noticed Mary's beauty shop and had a flash of terror. I tell you the story later.
