My friend commented back that she thought that was a good thing (that we didn't get close enough to shake his hand.)
I didn't comment back.
On Wednesday, January 7, as I sat down to enjoy a bowl of Frosted Mini Wheats for breakfast, I got to witness this beautiful exchange between Matt Lower and Ann Coulter on the Today Show.
It about made me gag on a Mini Wheat.
Later, my friend's Facebook status said that she wondered if anyone else is reading Ann Coulter's new book, Guilty.
I commented on her status that, "No I'm not reading it, but I WISH the Today Show would have banned her for life."
The next day I discovered that my friend and I were no longer "friends." I had been defriended on Facebook.

You are such a flaming liberal - I am going to defriend you in real life!
Just kidding.
Although we may not line up completely politically, I won't defriend you. However, you may be the only Democrat in heaven. Just kidding!!!! Seriously, just kidding.
I'm glad you won't defriend me Shelley! :) The funny thing is, my comment to my "friend" about Ann Coulter wasn't even politically motivated. I actually just wish Ann wouldn't be on the Today Show anymore because I do not enjoy listening to her regardless of her politics.
Michael Medved is a staunch conservative and I do enjoy listening to him. Actually, I listen to part of his radio show almost everyday.
I honestly would NOT identify myself as a Democrat. In last fall's election I voted for some Republicans (including Mitch Daniels) and some Democrats.
And by the way, I would have enjoyed seeing John McCain in person too, and would eagerly have shaken his hand. And if Mike Huckabee would have won the nomination, I likely would have voted for him.
I think I come across as slightly more liberal in my blog than I probably am, and I think there is a specific reason for that - even a purposeful reason. I'll have to blog about that reason sometime.
Hey Steve: I know your heart and know you are one of the few people in this world that actually pray about decisions they make when voting, whether for our government or for our church leadership. I, like you, would have loved to have voted for Mike Huckabee. I did vote for him in the primary. I knew John McCain would win the nomination, but I wanted to make a statement with voting for a very conservative. It will be interesting to see how the Republican party reinvents itself. The Democratic party had to reinvent themselves after the whipping they received across the country in the 2004 elections, and it obviously paid off for them this election. The Republicans have lost touch with their conservative base. Although I identify myself as a Republican, I am disgusted with how they have handled things the past few years. When I look at the overall voting record of the Republican party during the last 4 years, there is not much difference in regards to their financial decisions. I am a small-government person, but the Republican party became very large-government. I think they realized their mistake and will be carefully analyzing their platform for the next big election.
I was just kidding when I called you a Democrat. I know you haven't claimed to be one. I was just goofing around.
I think it is pretty awesome to shake hands with anyone who is or could become a world leader. I may not agree with President Obama morally or economically, but I respect the office he holds and would be honored to shake his hand.
I dont eat mini-wheats. :)
However what a frustrating 9 minutes!
I sometimes enjoy politics from a distance as entertainment.
Yet when I look at my income it requires me to be a steward.
"So where does my money go?", is a question I ask myself frequently. Not only my discretionary spending but even my taxes and tithing.
